Work should be 60% complete by end of this year

Progress on Section 3 of the I-69 Ohio River Crossing continues in Evansville. Ground was broken in September 2024, and new approach roadways and bridges are now taking shape. The 2025 I-69 ORX Section 3 Construction Guide outlines what to expect.

Early 2025: Design work nearly complete

Spring 2025: Piers, abutments, and earthwork embankments for new approach roadways and bridges

Summer/Fall 2025: Bridge beams will be set; concrete decks will be poured

Late 2025: Project 60% complete

Late 2026: Construction complete

New roads and bridges being built now will be used for all-weather construction access to the Ohio River to build the future I-69 bridge. They will open to traffic after work on the new I-69 bridge is complete.

Since breaking ground, over 50,000 cubic yards of permanent embankment have been placed and over 4,500 cubic yards of concrete have been poured. Eight miles of steel pile have been driven into the ground, building the foundation for 25 piers.
