I-69 ORX Section 3 includes some of the approach roadways and bridges in Indiana that will provide all-weather construction access to the river to build the future I-69 bridge (Section 2).
Construction Complete This Year
It’s the final year of construction, and the approach bridges and roadways to the future I-69 bridge are taking shape! Work is expected to be substantially complete this fall.
Pouring on the Progress
Three approach bridges are being built in Evansville. Nearly 200 concrete beams ranging in length from 125 feet to 188 feet have been delivered and set. The beams are among the largest precast concrete beams used in any construction project in the Midwest.
Work is underway to pour the concrete decks for the approach bridges. The longest bridge deck is nearly 4,000 feet long and took four concrete pours to complete. The longest of the concrete pours can last over 12 hours and require up to 185 truckloads of concrete. The work is typically done at night when impacts to traffic are minimized from the concrete trucks entering and exiting the site. The remaining concrete pours for the other two bridge decks will be complete by this summer. Check out this short video to watch one of the overnight pours in action.
What to Expect
The approach bridges mark the path to the future I-69 bridge and will provide all-weather access for crews to build the I-69 bridge. The approach bridges and roadways in Evansville will open to traffic after completion of the bridge, currently estimated to be in 2031.
