Final configuration will include a stop for local traffic turning onto US 41
When work on Section 1 of the I-69 Ohio River Crossing is complete late this year, the new US 41 interchange will be in a long-term interim configuration. It won’t operate in its final configuration until after work on the new I-69 bridge is complete.
Phased construction of the US 41 interchange means a free flow of traffic for drivers for the next several years. In its final configuration, US 41 will be an exit off I-69.
Current Configuration
To maintain efficient traffic flow, northbound I-69 traffic is flowing freely to northbound US 41. An on-ramp is being built to provide access to northbound I-69 from southbound US 41. By late this year, more than two miles of new I-69 roadway leading to the new US 60 interchange will open to traffic.
- In current and long-term interim configurations, traffic does not stop when exiting from northbound I-69 to US 41.
- Stopping all traffic exiting I-69 to US 41 would cause unnecessary delays.
Long-Term Interim Configuration
Beginning this fall, in addition to traffic freely flowing from northbound I-69 to northbound US 41, a new ramp will provide access from southbound US 41 to northbound I-69 and US 60.
- From northbound I-69, drivers will be able to continue along northbound US 41 to downtown Henderson or Evansville.
- From southbound US 41, drivers will be able to access I-69 in either direction.
- Until the new I-69 bridge opens, most drivers are expected to continue to use US 41.
Final Configuration
The US 41 interchange will be reconfigured near the end of construction on the future I-69 Ohio River Crossing bridge. In its final configuration, northbound I-69 to northbound US 41 will become an exit ramp with a stop.
- Most local traffic is expected to use the US 41 exit off I-69.
- The reconfigured exit ramp will end at a stop, facilitating easy access to the US 41 strip.
Construction on Section 1 is expected to be complete late this year.
