Project Overview

The Project Team is preparing a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) as required under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) for large, federally-funded projects like I-69 ORX.

The DEIS is a tool for decision making. The information gathered will allow executive leadership in both states to make an informed decision to deliver I-69 ORX.

THE NEPA PROCESS

  • Assessment of the social, economic and environmental impacts of a proposed project
  • Analysis of a range of reasonable alternatives to the proposed project, based on project’s defined purpose and need
  • Consideration of measures to avoid, minimize or mitigate potential impacts
  • Interagency coordination and consultation
  • Public involvement, including opportunities to participate and comment
  • Documentation and disclosure
  • A record of decision from FHWA, which identifies the final preferred alternative

PROPOSED PURPOSE AND NEED

  • Provide cross-river system linkage and connectivity between I-69 in Indiana and I-69 in Kentucky that is compatible with the National I-69 corridor
  • Develop a solution to address long-term cross-river mobility
  • Create a cross-river connection that reduces traffic congestion and delay
  • Improve safety for cross-river traffic
