Section 3: Indiana

Section 3 includes part of the approach roadways and bridges in Indiana.

Work includes all-weather construction access to the river to build the future I-69 bridge (Section 2).

The Section 2 project will complete any roadways and bridges in Indiana that are not constructed as part of Section 3 work.

Improvements include:

Roads and bridges will be used for construction access to the Ohio River.

The new roads and bridges will open to traffic after the new I-69 bridge is complete.

INDOT awarded a $202 million contract to ORX Constructors, a joint venture that includes Walsh Construction and Traylor Bros, Inc. in late 2023. Construction started in summer 2024. Construction is expected to be complete in late 2026.

SECTION 3 FAQs

Section 3 is nearly all Ohio River floodplain and will include construction of two small embankment sections, one near the IN/KY state line at the end of the Ohio River bridge in Section 2 and one near the existing I-69/Veterans Memorial Parkway.

Viaduct bridges will be constructed between the two short embankment sections and to connect the northerly embankment section with existing I-69 just west of Weinbach Avenue.

A new interchange will also be constructed at I-69/Veterans Memorial Parkway, providing free-flow movements in all directions.

I-69 ORX Section 3 has been funded through a $200 million investment by Indiana that was announced by Governor Holcomb in 2021.

The design build project let in 2023. Construction began in summer 2024 and is expected to be complete in 2026.

Construction is expected to take about three construction seasons and is expected to be complete in 2026.
