Section 3: Indiana
Section 3 includes part of the approach roadways and bridges in Indiana.
Work includes all-weather construction access to the river to build the future I-69 bridge (Section 2).
Improvements include:
- Approach roadways
- Approach bridges
- Widening of embankment along existing I-69
- New I-69 bridge over the Ohio River floodplain
Roads and bridges will be used for construction access to the Ohio River.
The new roads and bridges will open to traffic after the new I-69 bridge is complete.
INDOT awarded a $202 million contract to ORX Constructors, a joint venture that includes Walsh Construction and Traylor Bros, Inc. in late 2023. Construction started in fall 2024. Construction is expected to be complete in late 2026.

I-69 ORX Section 3 is the approach work in Evansville. It includes all-weather construction access to the Ohio River to build the future I-69 bridge (I-69 ORX Section 2). It includes part of the approach roadways and bridges in Evansville and widening the embankment along existing I-69.
The roads and bridges that will be used for construction access to the river will open to traffic after the new I-69 bridge is complete.
In spring 2025, crews will focus their attention on building piers, abutments and foundations for new approach roadways and bridges. In summer 2025, bridge beams are expected to be set, and concrete decks will be poured. Work on the project is expected to be about 60% complete by late 2025.
I-69 ORX Section 3 has been funded through a $200 million investment by Indiana that was announced in 2021.
Construction started in fall 2024 and is expected to be complete in late 2026.
